National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) has taken a novel initiative for supporting women led and lesser known cooperatives working in remote parts of India. NCUI is going to launch an exhibition-cum-sale centre named ‘NCUI Haat’ in its premises at Hauz Khas on 16 th August for bridging the gap between cooperatives working in rural India and people living in Delhi.
The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely impacted a section of smaller enterprises and cooperatives and they are struggling to run their business. The challenges they are facing in post-covid lockdown phase include lack of access to market space in big cities and lack of skills and capacity to tap the potential of e-commerce which has grown exponentially in covid phase.
To help such enterprises cope up with the difficult times, the NCUI Haat initiative has been conceived to assist women led and lesser known cooperatives by providing them a stall space for their products at a premium location in Delhi free of cost. NCUI aims to collaborate with the leading institutions of fashion design in Delhi to help the cooperatives in branding and packaging of their products.
In addition to this, NCUI has initiated the process to develop an android app which will showcase products made by cooperatives to the online customers. NCUI HAAT will be inaugurated on 16 th August by Shri Dileep Sanghani Ji, President, NCUI in the august presence of Dr. Vijendra singh, vice chairperson NCUI and chaiman MAFED, Dr. Charndrapal singh yadav Ex. CHAIPERSON NCUI and chaiman KRIBHCO. The launching ceremony will also be attented by dignitaries and delegates from relevant government departments, cooperatives, social organizations, resident welfare associations, self-help groups and other stakeholders.
In the first phase, cooperatives and self-help groups from Manipur, Gujarat, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Odisha will be showcasing their products at the centre. NCUI has invited members of participating cooperatives and self-help groups to be a part of the launching ceremony. The products displayed at the centre include handicrafts, fabrics, artificial jewellery and stoles.
After two weeks, cooperatives from other states will be given an opportunity to showcase their products at the centre. NCUI being an apex organization of cooperatives located across India, has taken several measures in recent past to upgrade its training and capacity building infrastructure and empower women led and lesser known cooperatives.
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive, NCUI said that NCUI HAAT is a major step to support the needy cooperatives and the existing exhibition-cum-sale space will be expanded three times in the next three months to accommodate products of many more cooperatives.
He also said that we are open to new ideas and inputs from participating cooperatives and prospective customers for further upgrading the services provided at NCUI HAAT and establishing it as a major destination of shopping for both residents of Delhi as well as the tourist community.
