UGC issues new calendar for the students which include that the new academic session for old students will begin from August 1 although for the new students (first semester/year) it will be from September 1 2020. The anticipated admissions for the session 2020-21 will be initiated between August1 – August31, 2020. The pending intermediate exams are likely to be conducted between July and August, 2020. These are the new guidelines issues by the UGC on Wednesday in the view of examination and academic calendar for the COVID-19 pandemic for the universities and colleges. It has also been commended that universities are likely to adopt a new simplified method and modes of examination which helps in completing the process in shorter period of time reducing the time from 3 hours to 2 hours.
The University Grants Commission announced the guidelines based on its two expert committees’ recommendations. The guidelines also mentioned that universities may follow a strict six-day week pattern, develop virtual classroom and video conferencing facility and all the teaching staff should be friendly with the use of technology. Teachers are asked to prepare notes in the form of e-content/e-lab experiments and should upload on their websites and circulated between the students for their learning. Teachers should be adequately trained for the use of online teaching tools, so they can completed about 25% of their syllabus through their virtual classroom.
